Ky scoring poorly in early reading assessment

This Hearald-Leader article points out an area in the NAEP where Kentucky puts up a particularly poor performance in education. Two thirds of our fourth graders not reading at a proficient level is an eye catching statistic, though the readers alarm is mollified later by the explanations that for some reason being on “grade level” and being “college and career ready” are not the same. Also the NAEP standards are higher than Kentucky’s as far as reading assessments go.

The less sensationalist portion of the article is the clarification that Kentucky has shown improvement and is on par with the national average. Our hope and goal is that through increasing Kentucky’s students access to pertinent technology and proven educational programs, we can move beyond the average and become a national leader in education.
